Personal Boundaries

Borders often fall into Tim Ingold’s category of ‘Ghostly Lines’, lines which do not “have real phenomenal presence in the environment”.

Through this small publication, boundaries are examined as a series of personal interviews, writings and poetry meant to question the complex nature of defining boundaries, distinguishable by factors such as gender and culture.

1. CONDUCTING INTERVIEWS

Conducting semi-formal interviews with Otter helped determine the direction of my work and put my personal judgments to the test. The results of the interviews confirmed that our perception of boundaries defer between men and women but also depend on culture, as studied by anthropologist, Edward Hall. Packaged as part of a journalistic magazine, each interview served as a preface for individual chapters,  with psychological and sociological research complementing the theme of money, gender, and culture as subcategories of personal boundaries.
