Z-GIRLS
A publication to strengthen the
female skateboarding community

For women who want to participate in sports deemed masculine, many experience a “problematic disjunction between sport and femininity” (Clark & Paechter, p. 262). 

Females fear being seen as masculine, which makes them hesitant about participating in sports. We found that skater girls saw themselves as participating in an ‘alternative’ girlhood. Z GIRLS is about creating exposure of self-defined female skateboarders and challenging the status-quo.
